Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine Review
Everybody wants a good body and there are many ways to skin a cat. Some people go to commercial gym due to variety of possible exercises and like-minded company. Some people like to train at home, without stress and hurry to free the machine to another gym-goer. One device designed to get you in shape is Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine, but how well it actually does job? I’ll let you know, just read this thorough review now!
The machine in nutshell
It’s a machine made to work your pecs and rear deltoids. The machine’s arms move with the shoulder joint, like a butterfly motion, so no directly backward and forward (so for example, push press is not supported). This of course limits the utility to few exercises, but if you don’t care so much about lower body, that is a non-issue.
You can use at least 180lbs worth of plates, so the apparatus will definitely offer some challenge for a long time!
What are the exercises I can do?
Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine is not a complex machine so it supports just a few exercises:
- chest flies
- reverse flies
However, if you face the seat, you can also work your upper back (the lat muscle).
The strong points
The machine has adjustable seat so even if you’re a taller person, you will fit in nicely. Also the arms can be adjusted, they have six different positions. In addition, they fold back which saves some space in your room.
The resistance is weight plate based. The holders are meant for plates with 1″ hole, however also 2″ plates go there without problems. So in another words, standard and Olympic plates both work out of the box with this machine. The manufacturer sells adapters if you want to make sure they fit in snug, but in my opinion that is not necessary. You see, the weights can’t possibly fall of because they only go up and down. But if you still want such an adapter, the 8″ length is the right one for this.
Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine isn’t expensive at all! You see, because it has a very specific use, the mechanism is quite simple, so not a lot of material had to be used for it. For someone who is budget-minded, such a low-cost device should be something to think about.
The weak points
So, keep in mind that you are not getting a full-body workout with Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine. If your goal is to work your legs, abs and arms too, it is not possible here. For that, you need All-in-One gym. Those are obviously more expensive so think if you want to spend your money on something you might not use.
The handles are fixed, they can’t be adjusted. So they do not go parallel to floor which, for some people, would be a more comfortable position for the fly exercises.
Several people commented the instructions are unclear and hard to read. It’s likely a drawing of the machine exploded, so understanding that might take some time. It’s better to have two persons when assembling this, I recommend.
The funny thing is, no weight plates are included. They are obviously required for this machine to work, so remember to buy them separately when ordering the Body-Solid!
Who should buy Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine?
It is true that the machine does not provide full-body workout, but not everybody is interested in one to begin with. For a couple of exercises this Body-Solid is an excellent choice, and if you keep working out many times a week you’re bound to get strength and even build some muscle to your upper body. That is what most people are looking from a gym, so in this regard, the machine is a great choice.
It’s also probably safer than free weights, so if you’re concerned about your well-being, the Body-Solid might be the winner.
Does it substitute a commercial gym?
That is a good question, and you might already know the answer which is no. In a commercial gym you can do so many more exercises that it’s even hard to compare these two. But on the other hand, maybe you’re not interested in doing everything, but rather want to excel in few.
And do not forget the price: in the long run, you will be paying much more to the commercial gym than the one-time fee of this “rig”.
How tall a person can use it?
A person who was 6’2″ said that he can fit in, but more than that would be a pain in the arse. However, somebody else said that he is 6’4″ and the machine works wonders for him. So it’s safe to assume that if you’re not more than 6 feet 2 inches, Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine is alright for you!
Is it durable?
The frame is made of 2″ by 2″ steel. So it is durable and doesn’t feel like it’s going to break anytime soon. This, in my opinion, is very important for strength training machines because a lot of weight is being moved!
Anyway, if your Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine breaks you have nothing to worry about: a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer is provided!
Does it fit into my room?
The product dimensions are exactly 65″ height x 32″ length x 28″ width when assembled. It weights 91 pounds so moving the machine around is rather effortless.
It might make great sense to go for Body-Solid GPM65 Plate Loaded Pec Machine if you want to pack some muscle to your upper body. Granted, only a few exercises can be done with this machine, but it really excels for those selected ones. The price is much better than All-in-One home gyms, although you can’t indeed do anything for lower body here. But when you get the Body-Solid assembled, it will be a solid (heh) workout for your pecs, rear deltoids and perhaps lats. For everyone interested in getting shape to those muscles, this machine is an excellent acquisition – don’t forget to buy the plates too!
